The MultiPacker® column packing systems are designed for the safe, efficient, and reproducible packing of Spring® columns with inner diameters from 25 mm up to 150 mm. Thanks to their innovative design, these systems are ideally suited for laboratories working with sensitive chromatography media and operating in hazardous environments.
The MultiPacker® instrument for 25 mm and 50 mm i.d. Spring® columns uses a purely pneumatic packing mechanism, eliminating the need for electrical power. This makes the system inherently safe for use with a wide range of solvents and particularly suitable for explosion-hazard areas. The same safety philosophy applies to the 50 mm to 150 mm model, which is based on an air-driven hydraulic mechanism.
Unlike conventional hydraulic packing systems, the MultiPacker® systems are equipped with a sophisticated damping circuit that effectively prevents pressure peaks during column packing. In traditional systems, uncontrolled pressure spikes generated by hydraulic pumps can damage sensitive media—especially large-pore particles—leading to particle breakage, increased backpressure, reduced efficiency, and poor peak shapes.
MultiPacker® technology overcomes these limitations by allowing independent control of packing pressure and packing speed. The combination of pneumatic or air-driven hydraulic operation with an integrated damping system ensures an exceptionally smooth and gentle packing process, free of harmful pressure peaks. This makes MultiPacker® instruments suitable for packing nearly all commercially available chromatography media.
Both MultiPacker® systems are easy to operate, require minimal training, and are virtually maintenance-free. Column preparation is straightforward, and the packing process itself typically takes only a few minutes. Unpacking the hardware and cleaning the components prior to re-packing are equally simple and efficient.
All MultiPacker® instruments are TÜV Rheinland approved, fully CE-certified, and supplied with an ATEX® exclusion, confirming their suitability for safe operation in explosion-hazard environments.
